Ray County Commissioners Gary Wilhite, Billy Gaines and Dave Powell approved the purchase of supplies for the mental health side of Ray County Jail. The project would be funded from the Capital Improvement Fund.

Richmond Police officers were dispatched to a local residence after a caller reported a female was hiding from an armed subject. However, the woman who was hiding ended up in handcuffs for a crime committed in August 2023. Because dispatch had informed Richmond Police Department officers a firearm was involved, Officer Derek Gardner approached the 302 N. College Street residence with his firearm drawn. Richmond Police Chief Scott Bagley recognized some of his officers with awards during an early February Richmond City Council meeting. With Richmond officers lining the rows of seating, Bagley gave Officers Derek Gardner and Brandon Peet the Life Saving Commendations and presented Corporal Tommy Rodriguez with the “2023 Officer of the Year Award.” The chief said the Life-Saving Commendation award not only represents what the officers do, but also their potential to save a person’s life.
