Commissioners approve fencing

Ray County Commissioners Gary Wilhite, Billy Gaines and Dave Powell approved the purchase of supplies for the mental health side of Ray County Jail. The project would be funded from the Capital Improvement Fund. This fund is based on a tax levy of point eight cents per $100 of assessed valuation of Ray County and is for capital improvements on buildings and grounds maintained by the county. Gaines said elected officials are required to bring projects before the commissioners for approval before any work proceeds. “If the work is done without approval, it comes out of their budgets. The elected officials would then have to make cuts from their budget to remain within the approved budget,” said Gaines. Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers spoke about the fencing needs around the entire site of the Total Care Behavioral (TCB) mental health buildings, located on the west side of the jail.
