Body COLUMBIA – Richmond senior Conner Teat felt hyped about ending his wrestling career on a high note, particularly when he considered what hitting that note took. Teat placed third in the 132-pound division at the Class 1 state tournament, held Feb.

Body RICHMOND – Layne Cavanah will continue catching passes on the football field. Cavanah, a Richmond High School senior and the son of Hardin-Central Superintendent Trey Cavanah, signed a letter of intent to play wide receiver at William Jewell College.

Body TINA – There are fewer area varsity basketball teams still standing. As of this writing, two of Ray County’s four Class 1 programs were still in the District 13 Tournament, slated to conclude Friday at Tina-Avalon.

Body CARROLLTON – The Spartans split their Feb. 16 varsity basketball meetings at Carrollton.

Body HIGGINSVILLE – Conner Teat has one last time to wrestle at state. Teat, a Richmond High School senior, qualified for the Class 1 state tournament by placing second in the 132-pound division in District 3 competition, held Feb.

Body TINA – The postseason is about to get underway for four area varsity basketball teams. The Hardin-Central boys and girls, and the Orrick boys and girls will play in the Class 1 District 13 Tournament, slated to get underway Saturday at Tina-Avalon.

Body RICHMOND – The Spartans’ 53-26 win Feb. 10 and 57-38 win Feb.

Body RICHMOND – A talk after the Spartans’ 47-23 Feb. 8 road loss to Holden in varsity girls basketball helped motivate them to romp past Lexington twice in two nights: 52-23 Feb. 10 at Lexington and 49-22 Feb. 11 at home.

Body HOLDEN– Richmond’s latest winning streak in varsity girls basketball has ended. After getting back-to-back wins to cap the Richmond Winter Classic, a Feb.

Body ORRICK – The Bearcats dropped their two varsity basketball games Tuesday night to visiting Sweet Springs/Malta Bend. The Orrick girls fell 48-27, putting them at 1-19 entering Wednesday’s non-conference road meeting with winless Lexington.
