Town Square Mercantile owners announce closure
After recently celebrating 50 years of marriage, Ray County natives Robert (Bob) and Janet Duncan have decided to retire from their Town Square Mercantile business.
The couple had a similar business before opening the downtown Richmond location in 2016.
In the ‘80s, they had a cabin north of Richmond called “Country Cabin” where they would decorate and sell items. Sadly, the Duncans closed in the early 2000s due to Janet’s health after being diagnosed with Lyme disease.
Years went by and their time to reopen a shop came to fruition.
“One day Bob asked, ‘What do you think about your dream coming true? Would you like to open a shop?’ That’s what he asked and we our home decor business at 109 N. Thornton Street started,” said Janet.
Both have deep roots in the Richmond community and grew up being Spartan fans.
Janet explained the hard choice to announce their retirement and closing of their business.
“We have built relationships. I am going to miss our loyal customers and friends…
