COVID-19 deaths from the world level down to Clay and Ray counties have increased dramatically over the past several days. The report last week recorded virus deaths worldwide at 42,400; nationally, 3,800; in Missouri, 14; and no deaths in Clay and Ray counties. This week, deaths worldwide have more than doubled to 88,388; nationally, deaths more than tripled, to 14,695; in Missouri, deaths nearly quadrupled to 53; in Clay County, there have been two deaths; and Ray County has not experienced a death. The purpose of this graphic is to provide a look at the impact this virus is having at various levels. RICHMOND – The Missouri State High School Activities Association has limited what local prep sports coaches and athletes, including in Excelsior Springs and Richmond, can do while the spring sports season hangs in limbo.
Spartan senior hoopster on all-state boys team

RICHMOND – Dionte Marquez recently added another honor to his list of achievements as a high school athlete.
The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association named the Richmond senior to its 2019-20 Class 3 all-state boys team. He was the lone Ray County hoopster selected.
Marquez helped the Spartans win their first district boys basketball title in 48 years and their third straight
Missouri River Valley Conference East Division title. Richmond finished 25-4, falling to Monroe City in sectionals.

SAM & VERNON Performers to entertain at church

RICHMOND – “Gifted.” “Multi-talented.” “Fun.” “Entertaining.” “Faithfilled.”
These are some of the words that describe a performance by Brent Vernon and his sidekick Sam.
Both will perform free in the Richmond United Methodist Church sanctuary at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 17.
Vernon said he will do a little singing, work with Sam a little and sing a little more. He has written numerous songs reflecting faith and the joy of God’s work.
