Hardin-Central superintendent completes doctorate

HARDIN – More than four years of work resulted in the addition of more letters – Ed.D – to Hardin-Central Superintendent Trey Cavanah’s collection of degrees. Having received a bachelor of arts in history degree from Baker University, and then masters of education and education specialist degrees through William Woods University in Fulton, Cavanah received his doctorate in education from Woods.

Students perform 'Twelfth Night' at Farris

Richmond High School students perform Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” this weekend only on the Farris Theatre stage. Led by teacher Shari Donaldson, the students will tell a story familiar to Shakespeare aficionados and film buffs who have seen Julie Andrews in the 1982 gender-bender film “Victor/ Victoria.” In the play, Shakespeare’s chief character, Viola, takes the role of a man when forced to occupy a position in a royal house, much as Andrews’ character in the film pretends be a man to advance her show business career.

Behler reports ‘good numbers’ for H-C boys track

HARDIN – Given its size, Hardin-Central has “good numbers” for track and field, varsity coach Brent Behler said. As of March 7, the Bulldogs had roughly 20 boys and eight participating, Behler estimated.

Thacker infuses H-C methods into Orrick track field

ORRICK – Coach Kirk Thacker brings parts of Hardin-Central’s track and field program to Orrick’s varsity program. Now finishing his first year of teaching and coaching at Orrick, Thacker was a longtime teacher and coach at Hardin-Central, where duties included coaching junior high and varsity track.

Bearcats focus on fundamentals, pitching to prep for softball season

Orrick fields new team

ORRICK – Coach Mitch Comstock starts over this season with Orrick’s golf program. All Bearcats who played in 2021 have graduated, including his son, Dylan Comstock, last season’s Class 1 state champion, now a first-year men’s golfer at Park University in Parkville; and Bishop Grimm, a state qualifier last season and the nephew of retired sports editor Russ Green.

Spartans look to ‘quality arms’ to lead them in baseball season

RICHMOND – The Spartans have “the most skilled team we’ve had in a little while” this varsity baseball season, senior Lucas Rodenberg said. “We’re looking pretty solid,” he said after a March 3 practice at Southview Park.

RICHMOND – Half of Richmond’s boys golf team made a quick transition from trying to sink two- and three-point buckets to trying to sink putts. As of March 14, there were six student-athletes out for golf, coach Murray Dennis said.

Ricky Wayne Alexander, 61, of Excelsior Springs, MO passed away on March 17, 2022 at home. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home of Excelsior Springs at 10:00AM. A funeral service will begin at 11:00AM with a graveside at Woodland Cemetery, Richmond, MO to follow. Mr. Alexander was born in Richmond, Missouri on November 03, 1960 at Ray County Hospital. Ricky was in the marching band in high school playing the tuba. He loved bowling and was an avid dog trainer, even owning his own dog training business.
