COVID-closure causes blowup at county meeting

RICHMOND – Democrats questioned, and Republicans criticized, the Ray County Commission regarding canceled plans for political gatherings at the Eagleton Center.

Eastern Commissioner Allen Dale, a Democrat, weeks earlier had told fellow Democrats they could not use the center for a political meeting.

“I was told about a month or so ago that we couldn’t use the Eagleton Center, couldn’t rent it out, because of the COVID thing, which I completely agree with,” Democrat Cindy Hewitt said prior to the Oct. 21 commission meeting.

Grace "JoAnn" Burnine

Grace “JoAnn” Burnine, 69, of Richmond, died Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, surrounded by her loving family.

JoAnn was born on November 5, 1950, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Cecil and Lucille (Studder) Martin.  She was united in marriage to Cleatus Lee Burnine of Richmond on July 26, 1968; he survives of the home.
