This year’s Triple Divot was a time to carry on traditions.

It also was a time to try something new.

The weekend golf event, which concluded Sunday at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, featured a “horse race” competition, as has been the case in recent years. As explained by Ryan Rouch, Shirkey’s PGA-certified golf pro, a horse race involves eliminating three-player teams by hole until one remains. This time, the last team standing consisted of Ryley Matthews, Corey Buford and Matt Clawson.

“We had them on different sides of the golf course,” Rouch said. “And once they dwindled down, then we merged them onto a couple different holes on the front side. And then, we just dwindled down, dwindled down until the last one.”
