Women’s chapter spreads kindness

Gamma Theta Chapters Beta Sigma Phi is a sorority dedicated to helping Ray County residents. Chapter member Beverly Phipps, who has been part of the sorority since 1971, said the group loves service projects. Group members also include Jean Schmidt, Jan Carnahan, Barb Parker, Pat Macey, Glenda Owen, Doris Tober and Nancy Coleman. One of their many service projects was hand-making 18 blankets. In years past, the group donated the blankets to the Salvation Army in Richmond. But this year, Phipps said the group decided to branch out and make their donation more personal by bringing the blankets to Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Shirkey Health Services CEO Chris Brown said he was grateful for the women’s efforts. “We were very appreciative of them thinking of our residents. The eighteen residents who received the blankets were very excited to have them and for the thoughtfulness, especially during Christmas time,” said Brown. “We wish to thank them again for…
