Controversy surrounds the impending eviction of Sunshine Lake residents continues as the Ray County Commissioners announced during a recent meeting the site will be converted into a primitive campground at a future date. As a result, both permanent and weekend residents will be required to vacate the area. On June 30, 2021, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) filed a notice and order to abate violations to Guardian Acceptance Corporation and Thomas G. Ehler, together referred to as the respondents in this order. DNR hand delivered a Letter of Warning (LOW) to the respondents for their violations of the Missouri Clean Water Law (MCWL) documented by staff during an Oct. 20, 2020, investigation. The respondents refused to accept the letter and the denial of access form, according to DNR.
