Controversy surrounds the impending eviction of Sunshine Lake residents continues as the Ray County Commissioners announced during a recent meeting the site will be converted into a primitive campground at a future date. As a result, both permanent and weekend residents will be required to vacate the area. On June 30, 2021, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) filed a notice and order to abate violations to Guardian Acceptance Corporation and Thomas G. Ehler, together referred to as the respondents in this order. DNR hand delivered a Letter of Warning (LOW) to the respondents for their violations of the Missouri Clean Water Law (MCWL) documented by staff during an Oct. 20, 2020, investigation.
