Johnson stays consistent; wins again Carrollton, Lawson

CARROLLTON – Jacob Johnson has been a consistent winner for Richmond in track and field this season. The junior has a string of victories in the boys long and triple jumps, including at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational April 19 at Carrollton. He leaped 13.38 meters to take the triple jump and 6.43 to win the long jump. Johnson credits his consistency in part to Richmond jumpers coach Jacob Swope. “After every practice, he stays late for us – helps us and always videos us, so we know what we can do better,” he said April 19. He also credits his older sister, 2017 Richmond graduate Nicole Johnson. His sister, a Class 3 state medalist as a jumper who competed at William Jewell College and then the University of Central Missouri, has been “helping me in the offseason,” he said. With his consistency, Johnson helped the Spartans win the boys title at Carrollton with 92 points – one point ahead of runner-up Orrick (see page 8 for related story).
