HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond senior Jude Rumbaugh sensed he had the boys 1,600-meter run in the bag as the finish line neared Tuesday at the Hoefer-Husker Invitational. Joshua Townsend of Green Ridge challenged Rumbaugh for the lead during the four-lap race.
RICHMOND – Wyatt Covey made a game-saving play near the end of Richmond’s home opener that might have impressed baseball legend Willie Mays. LIBERTY – Richmond High School graduate Abby Vandiver is getting some pitching work in her freshman softball season at William Jewell College. As of Monday, Vander had made seven relief appearances and was 1-0, William Jewell records stated.
LEXINGTON – A long wait ended for Richmond varsity track and field coach Mike Long and his Spartans on Tuesday. They had been set to open the season March 25 by hosting a meet, but weather interfered.
ORRICK – Varsity softball coach Zach McGill and his Bearcats got in some unexpected extra practice days before Monday’s 23-2 loss to visiting Santa Fe. The Bearcats were slated to play in the Santa Fe Snowflake Classic tournament at Alma, but the annual tournament was called “due to field conditions,” slugger Laci Smith said.
