Salvation Army crisis teams formed
Seeing a need for mental health resources in Ray County, Salvation Army owner and New Beginnings Church Pastor Phillip Powers, developed a crisis team which will show up to community emergencies or disastrous events to help victims and first responders cope.
“I saw a need for a crisis team in Ray County,” Powers said. “We have eight volunteer team members this far.”
The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services began in 1900. The Salvation Army first offered its services to disaster survivors after a major hurricane hit Galveston, Texas in September 1900, destroying the coastal city and killing thousands of people, according to disaster.salvationarmyusa. org.
A training course by Territorial Disaster Services Coordinator Kevin Ellers was given last week.
