District buys Gator to assist firefighters

RICHMOND – The Richmond Fire District has purchased a John Deere Gator and firefighting skid. The 2021 Gator is equipped with water, a pump, a hose and firefighting foam to use on grass and brush fires.
Ray County expects $4.4 million in ‘rescue’ funds

RICHMOND – Ray County expects to receive $4.4 million under the new American Rescue Plan Act. But County Treasurer Melissa Holloway said she has not seen any rules that tell how the money may be spent.
Cemetery board passes away… Now what?

RICHMOND – The Richmond Cemetery Board disbanded, and a board member dropped off records and possibly responsibility for the cemetery at the Ray County Commission office, Presiding Commissioner Bob King said April 30.

RICHMOND – The 911 sales tax could be splintered, with 40% going to the Ray County Sheriff’s Office and the rest staying with the 911 Board, if two things happen:
- The Ray County Commission agrees to place Sheriff Scott Childers’ tax diversion idea on the August ballot and
- Voters say yes to the split.
Childers presented reasons for the idea to the commission April 30, including his opinion that the 911 Board has more money than needed.

RICHMOND – Missouri 4H State Director Lupita Fabregas praised Ray County’s 4-H volunteers. “Volunteers are the true heart and soul of the 4-H program,” Fabergas said.
4-H youth compete in State 4-H Hippology Contest

COLUMBIA – A dozen youth applied their knowledge of horses at the University of Missouri Extension State 4-H Hippology Contest, held virtually April 10-11. Most participants shared knowledge in areas such as equine confirmation, behavior, equipment, diseases, anatomy, terminology and characteristics.
911 Board chooses new member, officers

RICHMOND – The 911 Board lost a member, added a member and named officers for the coming year. Board President Paul Harris announced member Bob McClelland had resigned “due to medical issues, effective immediately.” Harris recommended Lawson City Administrator Matt Nolker to replace McClelland.
Poorly announced sheriff’s training looks real, scares children
