RICHMOND – More than 4,500 first-year FFA members from 350-plus Missouri high schools had the opportunity to learn about being positive role models, getting involved, making sound choices, becoming active team members and making a positive difference in their lives, school and community during the annual Greenhand Motivational Conferences.

Wrecking ball takes down landmark, old grain elevator, one bang at a time

RICHMOND – Suspended from a cable attached to a crane parked beside the grain elevator on Old Highway 10, a wrecking ball swings out, brightened by sunlight against the blue sky. The “ball” – resembling a sinker attached to a fishing line – is cast, reaches a high point, seems to pause for a moment and returns with a purpose.

Grants for specialty crops

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Agriculture is accepting proposals through March 8 for anticipated funding from the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. “These grant funds will assist projects in both rural and urban settings, allowing our producers to find continued growth and success,” Missouri Agriculture Director Chris Chinn said.

Railroad, residents at odds on closing crossings

RICHMOND – Talk continues but solutions remain elusive regarding safe rail crossings at and near Henrietta. After the Missouri Department of Transportation had sold the old Highway 13 bridge in Henrietta to the Ray County Commission, which could not afford maintenance, the overpass closed due to safety issues.
