CARROLLTON – When Orrick’s winning streak in varsity boys track ended, coach Kirk Thacker wasn’t disappointed. Coming off wins at the Norborne Pirate Invitational April 14, the Sweet Springs Invitational April 18 and the Hardin-Central Invitational April 19 at Richmond, the Orrick boys finished fourth at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational April 21 at Carrollton.

HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond threatened to spoil Lafayette County of Higginsville’s bid to go undefeated in Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division varsity baseball when the teams met Tuesday at Fairground Park.

Richmond’s latest homestand is off to a winning start. At press time, the Spartans were 2-1 in their slate of five games at Southview Park.

Brett Terry has his first dual win as Richmond’s boys tennis coach. Terry, who got his first dual win as Richmond’s girls tennis coach in September 2022 against Lexington, secured the “W” on April 13, when the Spartans thumped Cameron 8-1 at Maurice Roberts Park.

Orrick varsity track and field coach Kirk Thacker got a pleasant surprise on April 14. When the Norborne Pirate Invitational ended that afternoon at Spartan Stadium in Richmond, Thacker learned his Bearcats had won the boys portion of the meet.

When he tallied the scores of Richmond’s boys varsity golf dual with Odessa Monday at Shirkey Golf Course, Richmond coach Murray Dennis saw a result he might not have seen before: three individuals tied for first.

With Richmond hosting its final home track and field meet Tuesday, it was decided to honor the seniors in the program in mid-April, rather than near the end of the spring sports season. And so, near the end of Tuesday’s Hoot Middleton Invitational, a Senior Night ceremony was held for the nine seniors in the program – six boys and three girls, including one manager.

Richmond High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) students recently completed their Donkey Basketball Fundraiser. FFA teacher Laura Allen said the fundraiser had students, teachers, citizens and supporters played basketball while riding donkeys.
