James Gorham, economic development director for the City of Richmond, said nine homeowners had participated in a restoration program, with more than $21,000 invested into those properties, during the Oct. 11 City Council meeting.

Mixing and mingling were performed at the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce after-hours event, hosted by Ray County Memorial Hospital (RCMH). RCMH’s new CEO, Jeff Bloemker, introduced himself to the community members and showed support for the event.

Sheriff Scott Childers and Ray County deputies have been involved in five pursuits the last several weeks. All pursuits resulted in charges of trafficking drugs and resisting arrest.

During the Ray County Coalition meeting on Oct. 5, two community prevention specialists for the Ray County Coalition, Deborah Neel and Emily Barnes, were on hand to introduce the program director from Smithville Community In Action, Jennifer Rhoads.

A high rating is impressive. April Maulsby, executive director of the Richmond Housing Authority (RHA), said her agency has received high rating since she has been there.

Those who tailgate generally love the activity, and Richmond High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) members are no exception. The chapter hosted a grill and tailgate event from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Effective immediately, the Excelsior Springs Standard and Richmond Daily News is under new leadership with Sharon Donat stepping up as General Manager. After 32 years at the two newspapers and 20 years as publisher, Brian Rice is retiring from the newspaper business.

As the current owners of Thurman Funeral Home, Bartley and Tonya Willim are preparing for Thurman’s 100-year celebration, set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14, to honor the funeral home’s centennial anniversary.

Noted evangelist Barry Young preached at a revival Sept. 25-28 at Orrick Christian Church.
