In order to put a stop to the invasive bush honeysuckle or Lonicera Maackii currently taking over forests in Missouri and Kansas, according to Debbie Neff of Excelsior Springs has organized an eradication event for Watkins Mill State Park, from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 25.

The Kansas City-based Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts boys’ basketball team faced racist and derogatory remarks last week from a Richmond High student. The remarks were made as the Paseo team arrived at Richmond High School for a game. Feeling they were in an unsafe environment, the Paseo team left directly after hearing the comments and considered rescheduling the game. However, officials said the game will not be played at all.

A group effort can create a ripple effect that travels miles. Because of Mike Karl’s spirit and Spartan pride this past football season, a football signed by Richmond football seniors was gifted to him on Christmas.

The first quarter of Richmond’s 46-33 victory over Oak Grove Tuesday night was the best quarter Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump has seen her Spartans play all season. Vantrump saw the Spartans bolt to a 7-0 lead in the Richmond Winter Classic opener at Richmond High School.

The idea of a disc golf course for Richmond was visited during the recent Ray County School Board meeting. In a Richmond City Park Board meeting last year, area residents presented the idea and the park board requested the Ray County School Board provide the city with the space to make the idea a reality.

Sunrise Elementary School music teacher Kaelyn Rich has directed not only Sunrise Singers, but All-State Choir as well. Baylee Crispen and Harper Hockemeier, fourth- and fifth-grade students, were both excited to participate in the All-State Children’s Choir.
