reached a wrestling milestone Jan. 21, when he and his fellow Spartans competed in the Lathrop Boys Invitational.
By pinning Lawson’s Huntley Mather in 26 seconds in the winner’s bracket semifinals, Ivison achieved his 100th high school career victory, Richmond coach Cody Hogan stated Monday via email. The senior followed that by pinning South Harrison’s Mayson Edwards in 45 seconds to win the 190-pound division – and help Richmond’s varsity team win the tournament title with 264 points.
Ivison was among four Richmond champions. The others were Madix Hutchings (126), Joe Burch III (165) and Larry Penniston (285).
“Madix beat a few kids ranked above him to win, Larry beat a couple tough kids by wrestling tough smart matches and Joe looked dominant in his bracket and did what he needed to do,” Hogan wrote.
The four title-winners were among seven Spartans who wrestled in championship matches. Daxton McGinnis (106), Cayden Morris (113) and Elijah Sanders (157) were runnersup.
