’Cats find continuity in Rodenberg
In some ways, Orrick’s offensive and defensive systems have changed under new varsity 8-man football coach Aaron Rodenberg – and in other ways, not so much, according to soon-to-be senior Gage Tebbe.
Offensively, the Bearcats’ “route concepts” for pass plays under Rodenberg are like those of Matt O’Dell, their previous coach, Tebbe said after a team camp session Monday on Orrick’s practice field.
“Verbiage is a little bit different as we go through it, but the majority of what we’re learning and trying to implement is close to the same as what it was last year – and I think it’s meshing really well with all the other athletes,” Tebbe said.
Levi Fielder, who also is entering his senior year, is among those “other athletes.” Fielder likes the similarities between Rodenberg’s systems and O’Dell’s.
“It’s good because most of us already know what we’re doing,” Fielder said. “We have some same formations, but we also switch it up. It’s very nice.”
