RICHMOND – When the Spartans trailed 30-29 about midway through the fourth quarter against Oak Grove, they did not panic. They staged a 10-0 run that helped them win the Jan.
RICHMOND – For their first varsity basketball game after an unexpected week off, a 45-41 loss Monday to Pembroke Hill, the Spartans served up a nail-biting finish. After three-plus seesaw quarters, Richmond trailed Pembroke Hill 44- 41 with less than a minute to play and Pembroke Hill in possession.
RICHMOND – Senior guard Spencer Wolf and his fellow Spartans felt anxious to play basketball again when they took the court Tuesday to open the Richmond Winter Classic. And they channeled their eagerness into pummeling Oak Grove 82-31.
ORRICK – Last week marked a week of growth for Orrick’s varsity girls basketball program, coach Zach McGill and senior guard Anna Parker agreed after the Bearcats’ 57-17 Jan. 21 court warming loss to Tina-Avalon/Norborne, or TAN.
LAWSON – Richmond varsity boys coach Kevin Jermain’s normally speedy Spartans had to take a grind-andpound approach to down Chillicothe 46-34 Jan. 14 at Lawson High School for the Lawson Invitational Basketball Tournament title.
KINGSVILLE – A 31-game losing streak is over for Orrick in varsity girls basketball. The Bearcats broke the streak Tuesday night by edging Kingsville 33-29 on the road in non-conference play.
HARDIN – Being a .500 team remains within reach for Hardin-Central in varsity girls basketball. Following a 60-38 Carroll-Livingston Activities Association loss Tuesday night to visiting Higbee, the Bulldogs were 6-7 overall entering Friday’s nonconference meeting with visiting Concordia.
