Tribute to local business

Body
Standing tall in the face of modern challenges In a world where social media has entrenched itself as the primary tool for communication, marketing and community engagement, stepping away from its grasp is nothing short of courageous. One local business in our town has done just that, and their decision deserves both our respect and our applause.

The heartbreak of a missing loved one

Body
How many times a day do you come across a social media post about a missing person? Do you take the time to read about the individual, where they were last seen, how long they have been missing, and examine their picture? Or do you simply scroll past without a second thought? Unless you have been personally affected by such a situation, you might not give it much consideration. We have become so desensitized and caught up in our troubles that we rarely see or empathize with those around us.

As we look forward to 2025, it is important to reflect on our individual and collective aspirations. In an increasingly chaotic world, where negativity often invades our daily conversations and interactions, it is crucial for us to set goals focused on kindness, fostering positive interactions, and maintaining the vitality of our local newspapers. This trifecta contributes to personal fulfillment and helps weave a resilient social fabric in our community.

A podcast from home

Body
I’ve recently jumped into the world of podcasts during my daily commute and it’s been such an interesting experience. With so many podcasts out there – everything from true crime to celebrity cooking – it’s easy to miss a local gem that highlights the unique stories and voices from our communities, “Ray County Voices” (RCV), hosted by the Richmond News.

They dive into the festive atmosphere, decorating their homes, sharing meals with loved ones and exchanging gifts. However, with adulthood came a feeling of dread for the holiday, to the point of me even loathing Christmas.

Support community arts

Body
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a vibrant community arts event that showcased the incredible talents of local performers. This experience left a lasting impression on and ignited a passion to advocate for the importance of supporting such initiatives. The event not only highlighted diverse skill levels, but also fostered a sense of unity and shared appreciation within our community. I now feel inspired to encourage others to participate in and support similar events, as they play a crucial role in enriching local creatives.
