KC Monarchs visit Richmond for exhibition game in 1950

In 1950, Richmond had a semi-professional baseball team called the Red Sox. It was organized by Richmond’s American Legion, who hired Elwyn Lewis (1915-2015) of Kansas City to put together and manage the team. Lewis also played for the team, which faced other teams from the local area, as well as Kansas City, from May to August, ending the season on a twogame winning streak.
