These are exciting and unusual times for public education. Emerging from a pandemic, school districts all across the nation are assessing, re-evaluating and designing student programs and procedures that will reshape not only our teaching and learning styles, but also our overarching views of preparing students for adulthood.

RICHMOND – A bridge-naming procession will start at 3 p.m. June 5 to honor the memory of three Richmond-area residents killed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

RICHMOND – Because her office did not wait, as the Missouri General Assembly waited until the last minute to create new legislative districts following the 2020 census, Ray County Clerk Glenda Powell said Ray County voters will know where to vote Aug. 2.

RICHMOND – Ray County’s oldest World War II veteran, Ted Thomas, turned 102 on May 18 and said he looks forward to Memorial Day on May 30. “It means a whole lot – the memory of them that’s gone on before,” Thomas said, including friends he had made while serving at Honolulu, Hawaii.

RICHMOND – Friends and family, advisors and other drug court members applauded Thomas Hupp, Lloyd Conklin and Kimberly Boude upon graduation April 29 from the Ray County Drug Court. Started in 2005, the court is a program funded by the Clay Platte Ray Mental Health Tax Levy to help people get clean after committing a drug-related felony, pleading guilty and being placed on probation.

RICHMOND – First, there is a single mew, then a chorus, high and pleading, almost pitiful, demanding attention. The sound comes from inside the all-volunteer Humane Society of Ray County.

RICHMOND – Veterinarians and Richmond will host the Annual Pet Clinic at The Dog Park from 6 to 7 p.m. June 7 through June 9 on the south end of West Park on West Royle Street.
