CARROLLTON – Grace Bozarth’s final serve Sept. 30 in the Carrollton Varsity Tournament hit the spot for her and her Richmond volleyball teammates. With Richmond leading Brookfield 24-13 in the second set of the third-place match, the senior hit a serve that appeared to land near Brookfield’s left sideline. The untouched shot was ruled good. The ace completed a 12-point victory and a sweep. Richmond won the first set 25-17. Serving to that spot “was just kind of a last-minute choice,” Bozarth said. “I just thought I’d try to pull it off and I ended up pulling it off,” she said. That choice was in keeping with Bozarth’s approach to serving in general, she suggested. “Usually before I serve, I just look at the court and see if I can see any open spots,” Bozarth said. “And that just happened to be open.” Because Bozarth hit the spot “that just happened to be open,” the Spartans won their second straight match against Brookfield.
