RICHMOND – The idea some in Washington floated – that COVID-19 would disappear after the presidential election – has proved false nationally and in Clay and Ray counties. Including most of the northern part of Kansas City, Clay County in the past week has recorded another 15 deaths.

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, or DHSS, encourages taking activities outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic, this does not imply that prevention measures should be ignored.

RICHMOND – Rep. Peggy McGaugh presented Melissa Perkins with a House resolution during the Ray County Commission meeting Nov.

LIBERTY – The Northland Coalition named Angie Winkler the recipient of their Outstanding Commitment to Prevention Award for 2020. A clinical liaison for Signature Psychiatric Hospital, Winkler has been an active participant in the coalition for several years, most recently serving as president for 2019-20.

HARDIN – The harvest has ended and the Missouri Department of Transportation has started deck replacement on the Highway J bridge over Crooked River between Hardin and Highway 13. MoDOT had planned to start work in early September, before the corn and soybean harvest.

RICHMOND – The action plan requires assembly-line precision to create, package and distribute Thanksgiving dinners to scores of people at New Beginnings Church. Several volunteers in the kitchen – among them Misty Carpenter, Linda Powers and Eleanor Covey – bake the turkey and cornbread stuffing, stir the green beans and gravy, and mash the potatoes.

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri State Board of Education approved an alternative route to obtain a substitute certificate to teach in public schools. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education consulted with education groups to help address the shortage of substitute teachers.

WARRENSBURG – The University of Central Missouri Alumni Foundation announced 1973 alumnus Frank “Chip” Deel made a trust estate gift valued at $15 million to UCM – the largest in school history.

RICHMOND – Having missed four weeks of inschool teaching because of COVID-19, Richmond High School Band members practiced and played together whenever possible, director Jeffrey Clymore said. They played at football games and at the Veterans Building for community members who united outdoors for Veterans Day.
