Driver loses ‘demolition derby’ to police

CRYSTAL LAKES – After allegedly stealing a vehicle and playing “demolition derby” with two Excelsior Springs Police Department vehicles, being knocked off the highway and overturning, and then trying to escape on foot, twice, Bobbie Marie Bauman, 37, Excelsior Springs, is in the Ray County Jail.

‘Ray’ distinct name among U.S. counties

RICHMOND – No county in Missouri or the nation has a shorter name than Ray. There are many counties with four-letter names, including neighboring Clay, and a few others have three-letter names; but out of 3,141 counties and county equivalents, none has a one- or two-letter name.

Sheriff’s Office assists in arrest after homicide

HARDIN – The Ray County Sheriff’s Office assisted area law enforcers in the arrest of a murder suspect in Hardin.

Sheriff Garry Bush said Aug. 21 that area law enforcers alerted his office that the suspect, Thorne McKendrick, 19, Kansas City, could be in southeastern Ray County. Bush’s staff began to search for McKendrick.
