Yockel seals win for H-C; ’Dawgs avenge December loss

HARDIN – Alexis Yockel could sense the pressure when she went to the free throw line for the last time Monday. Yockel and her Hardin-Central teammates led Southwest of Livingston County 40-39 when she was fouled with 3 seconds left in the Class 1 District 13 varsity girls basketball meeting at Hardin-Central. The senior made her first shot and missed her second. “I knew that I needed to make those shots in order for us to … (stay) in the lead and secure the win,” Yockel said. “And it didn’t help that, when we took that timeout, they … were pressuring me to make that shot. They were telling me how to make it, (saying), ‘You have to make it.’ That’s why I missed my second one.” Southwest got the rebound on Yockel’s missed shot and attempted a buzzerbeating three-pointer. The shot was no good and Hardin-Central held on for the two-point win.
