Turnovers plague H-C boys in home loss to Panthers

HARDIN – Watching his Bulldogs get thumped 65-31 Monday by visiting Grundy County/Newtown-Harris provided Hardin-Central varsity boys basketball coach Brent Behler a clear reminder that ball security is the team’s biggest trouble spot. “We turned it over a lot,” Behler said after the non-conference defeat. Behler did not know how many turnovers the Bulldogs had committed. But if there were fewer than 30, it would have surprised him, he said. Behler, however, knew 20 first-half turnovers occurred. That was too many. “When you turn it over 20 times in the first half and you don’t stop the ball on the drive, letting kids dribble 90 feet, you’re going to be in trouble,” he said. “You’re in for a long night.” But for a quarter and change, the Bulldogs were not in trouble.
