Turnovers, missed shots hurt Richmond girls in final 2020 outing
CARROLLTON – Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Chad Snyder has identified “shooting and turnovers” as two trouble spots his Spartans must address in 2021.
Both were issues during Richmond’s 57-26 Dec. 22 Missouri River Valley Conference East Division road loss to Carrollton. Unofficially, the Spartans committed 20 turnovers and went 5-for-26, or 19.2%, from the field during the last three quarters of their final game of 2020. First-quarter stats were unavailable because of video streaming issues.
By contrast, the Trojans committed eight turnovers the last three quarters. They went 16-for-38, or 42.1%, from the field during that span.
Richmond, however, made enough shots and avoided turnovers long enough to open with a 5-0 lead. After calling timeout with 4 minutes, 25 seconds left in the first quarter, Carrollton staged an 11-0 run that started with a two-point bucket with 3:35 left in the quarter and ended with a two-pointer with 6:56 left in the second quarter.
