Spartans ‘tidying up a few things’ in latest camp

Fine tuning was the emphasis for Richmond varsity football coach Nick Persell and his Spartans for this week’s set of team camp sessions. Having installed the basic offenses and defenses during a team camp last week, the Spartans were “tidying up a few things this week,” Persell said Monday afternoon on the practice field at the high school, where camp sessions took place through Thursday. Specifically, they were focusing on some “wrinkles to some plays” on offense, he said. “The offensive line basically blocks the same (way on the same) play, whether we’re doing different things in the backfield (or not),” Persell said. “Our quarterback sometimes reads players, so we’re adding some quarterback-read game – some stuff that you would’ve … (seen) Keyshaun Elliott do quite a bit of a couple years ago.” Jacob Johnson is among the signalcallers who might be asked to make the kinds of reads Elliott made as Richmond’s starting quarterback.
