CARROLLTON – The Spartans split their Feb. 16 varsity basketball meetings at Carrollton. The Richmond girls fell to the Trojans 59-33 in their regular-season finale. They finished the regular season 12-12 overall and 5-5 in Missouri River Valley Conference East Division play. Richmond romped to a 68-29 win in the boys game. With the victory, the Spartans finished MRVC East play 9-1, giving Richmond a co-divisional championship with Lafayette County of Higginsville. The Richmond boys finished their regular season 19-5, falling to St. Joseph Lafayette 56-44 Tuesday at St. Joseph. School district information stated they were scheduled Wednesday to host Excelsior Springs; however, a district text alert stated the MRVC interdivisional meeting had been cancelled because “Excelsior Springs has to prioritize” MRVC West games.
