Spartans slowed down in tourney loss to Summit Christian

RICHMOND – For the second time in a week, Richmond varsity coach Kevin Jermain and his Spartans found themselves playing a slower style of basketball than they like to play. On Jan. 29, the speedy Spartans faced Summit Christian Academy for the boys championship in the Richmond Winter Classic at Richmond High School. Unlike their Jan. 22 meeting with visiting Lexington in Missouri River Valley Conference East Division play, they did not triumph by playing a deliberate, halfcourt game, falling 49-37. “It was really important for us to try to speed it up because …, with their size and their defensive ability, … we knew it was going to be really tough to score in the half-court and we just never got it sped up very much at all,” Jermain said.
