Spartans push WN, then go 1-2 at Chillicothe
Richmond nearly staged a comeback victory over Wellington-Napoleon in varsity volleyball.
Trailing 24-14 in the third set of the Sept. 14 best-of-five home match, the Spartans staged a 10-0 run to tie it. Wellington-Napoleon held on to win 2725, completing a 3-0 sweep.
Sydnee Burnett served on the 10-point run. Handling the pressure was key to sparking the run, the sophomore said.
“I knew that I wanted to continue playing, so I had to keep getting the serves over,” Burnett said.
Emotionally, the Spartans fed off of Burnett’s serving run, according to teammate Allison Coats.
“I think we celebrated each other really well,” said Coats, a senior. “And we weren’t ready to leave, so having her start that momentum, … we just carried it.”
It wasn’t Richmond best performance in a set this season, “but it was still good,” Burnett said.
To Spartans coach Cody Hogan, the set followed a pattern that has characterized Richmond’s performances this season.
