Richmond volleyballers see ‘lot of successes’ in season-ending loss

OAK GROVE – A sense of urgency fueled Richmond in the final set of the Spartans’ 3-0 season-ending loss in varsity volleyball Oct. 20 at Oak Grove. After dropping the first two sets of the Class 3 District 15 Tournament meeting 25-16, 25-11, Richmond regularly traded leads with Oak Grove during the third set. It was 18-18 when the Panthers staged a 7-1 run to finish it. “That last set was just so hard and we really wanted it, and we were determined,” said Richmond hitter Genevieve Didier, a first-year high schooler. “It … just didn’t have the outcome that we wanted.” Coverage of Richmond’s hitters was key to taking the Panthers to the wire, according to Spartans coach Crystal Turner.
