Richmond’s latest homestand is off to a winning start. At press time, the Spartans were 2-1 in their slate of five games at Southview Park. Weather permitting, they were slated to face Lexington Thursday in Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division action. As of Tuesday night, The Weather Channel forecast was calling for a 70 percent chance of rain Thursday. The Spartans started their homestand by splitting a doubleheader with Holden Monday, winning 4-3 and falling 6-1. Originally, they were scheduled to play at Holden. “We will no longer be traveling to Holden to play baseball, as their field is unplayable the remainder of the season,” a Richmond R-XVI School District text alert stated. Richmond then edged Knob Noster 4-3 on Tuesday, putting the Spartans at 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the MRVC East.
