RICHMOND SPORTS NOTEBOOK
THE FIELD IS SET Varsity girls coach Kaylee Vantrump and varsity boys coach Brent Behler know who their respective teams will face when Richmond opens the Class 4 District 14 Tournament next week in Knob Noster.
The Richmond girls are slated to face Excelsior Springs at 5:30 p.m. March 2, with the winner to face top-seeded Oak Grove at 5:30 p.m. March 4 in the semifinals of the single-elimination postseason competition. Vantrump and her Spartans are seeking to a season sweep of the Tigers. Richmond edged Excelsior Springs 47-38 early in the regular season at the Husker Classic, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville.
On the boys side, Richmond will open at 5:30 p.m. March 3 against the host school. Coincidentally, with a win, the Richmond guys also would play Oak Grove in the semifinals – in their case, at 5:30 p.m. March 5. Oak Grove also is the top-seeded boys team.
