LEAVING WITH A WIN Brady Hyder can say he won his final high school wrestling match.
Hyder, who’ll graduate in May from Richmond, placed fifth at the Class 2 state boys meet, held Feb. 25-26 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. He finished his tournament run with a win by a 20-3 technical fall over Kirksville’s Jason Schutter in the fifth-place match for the 126-pound division.
Hyder secured a medal with his finish. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations, the top six places in each weight class received a medal.
Richmond first-year high schooler Ryan Sharp also received a medal, placing fourth at 144. His tournament ended with a loss by a 10-0 major decision in the thirdplace match.
Sharp and Hyder were among four Richmond boys who wrestled at state. Raiden Sullivan and Madix Hutchings competed at 113 and 150, respectively.
