Richmond has its first win in varsity softball this season. And its second.
On Sept. 21 at Lexington, the Spartans cruised past the Minutewomen 7-1, snapping a nine-game losing streak. After falling 14-1 Monday to visiting Summit Christian Academy of Lee’s Summit at Southview Park, Richmond downed Lafayette County of Higginsville 9-5 on Tuesday, also at Southview.
Richmond spotted Lafayette County a run in the top of the first inning of the livestreamed Missouri River Valley Conference-East Division meeting. The Spartans took the lead with two runs in the second and added three in the third.
The Huskers cut Richmond’s lead to 5-3 with two runs in the fourth. The Spartans pulled away with four runs in the sixth. Lafayette County scored two runs in the seventh.
Lafayette County was the second of three opponents Richmond was scheduled to face this week. At press time, the Spartans were slated for a Thursday visit to Carrollton.
