HOOPS PERHAPS? Richmond might get to play Kansas City Central this season in basketball after all. Both Richmond varsity teams were slated to play Central in the Twelve Courts of Christmas, a holiday shootout featuring teams from multiple states. The Richmond varsity girls were slated to play at 2 p.m. and the varsity boys were scheduled for 4 p.m., both on Dec. 22, at Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City. Both games were called, however, because of last week’s snowstorm. But in a Dec. 21 Spartan Alert, the Richmond R-XVI School District announced it is “working with KC Central to try and find a date that (the) girls and boys varsity can still play.” With the Blue Eagles off the calendar (at least for now), the last game for both Richmond teams for 2022 was Dec. 20 at Carrollton. The Richmond girls lost 57-25. The Richmond boys crushed the Trojans 75-38. The Richmond girls are slated to start 2023 Jan. 5 at Santa Fe in Alma.
