Rain, East Atchison spark changes to OFB camp

Coach Kirk Thacker’s plans for starting Orrick’s final week of varsity 8-man football team camp Monday got changed. Normally, Thacker and his Bearcats hold camp sessions outside. The rainstorm that passed through Ray County Monday changed that. After focusing on installing a new defense during last week’s team camp, Thacker had planned to stay the course this week. Orrick’s performance at a July 21 multiteam scrimmage camp at Tarkio, hosted by East Atchison, changed that. Based on what he had seen in Tarkio, Thacker opted to work passing drill reps into the Monday morning session in the Orrick High School gym. “It wasn’t pretty the other day,” Thacker said. “We had a lot of floaters on (our) passes and not a lot of success. … (It’s) just going to take us a little time. … It’s a little hiccup, but not anything major.” In addition, the Bearcats honed the execution of their “bread-and-butter plays” Monday, Thacker said. “Our execution was off the other day, and I wasn’t happy with…
