Orrick boys ‘pushed a little harder’ at Carrollton

CARROLLTON – When Orrick’s winning streak in varsity boys track ended, coach Kirk Thacker wasn’t disappointed. Coming off wins at the Norborne Pirate Invitational April 14, the Sweet Springs Invitational April 18 and the Hardin-Central Invitational April 19 at Richmond, the Orrick boys finished fourth at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational April 21 at Carrollton. “We’ve enjoyed winning the last three, but that’s been against our own level of competition,” Thacker said. Orrick, a Class 1 program, faced such schools as Richmond, a Class 3 program (see story on page 6); and Carrollton, Lexington and Lafayette County, all Class 2 programs. “It’s good for us to be pushed a little harder – not to be complacent and … just rely on what we’ve already done,” said Thacker, a Richmond High School alumnus. “We want to continue to get better each track meet, and that’s one of the reasons I brought us to this one, because it is such good competition.
