Orrick varsity track and field coach Kirk Thacker got a pleasant surprise on April 14. When the Norborne Pirate Invitational ended that afternoon at Spartan Stadium in Richmond, Thacker learned his Bearcats had won the boys portion of the meet. Sparked by wins in three events, Orrick tallied 97.5 points – 8.5 points more than runner-up Braymer. “Was not expecting that one,” Thacker stated April 15 via text message. The meet title followed Orrick’s appearance on April 12 at the Southwest Livingston County R-1 Invitational at Chillicothe, where Braymer placed second with 103 points and Orrick tied Tina-Avalon for third with 85. “The few … (tweaks) I made to our relays … (seemed) to have turned the tables,” Thacker wrote. Junior Jonathon Harris led the Bearcats with wins in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles. Harris ran the 110s in 16.48 seconds and the 300s in 44.83.
