Orrick boys fall to undefeated Cougars in first round
ORRICK – The Bearcats are still figuring out their identity as a varsity boys basketball team.
Coach Matt Brownsberger was reminded of that after Orrick’s 57-25 loss Dec. 4 to open the I-70 Conference Tournament, hosted this year by Orrick.
“We are still trying to figure out what pieces go where,” he said. “It might take us a little while.”
Against Crest Ridge, Bearcats found themselves fighting against a doubledigit deficit. With the score 3-3, the Cougars staged a 13-2 first-quarter run.
The start contrasted with the previous ballgame – a 58-43 Dec. 2 home victory over Southwest of Livingston County.
“We scored early, got some turnovers early … off our defense and just kind of made some things happen,” Brownsberger said.
A reason for the contrast was the difference between the two opponents, Brownsberger said. Crest Ridge, a Centerview-based school, is “really physical,” he said.
