Nolkers make race night at speedway a family affair

WARRENSBURG – On Aug. 15, Blaine Nolker borrowed the keys to his dad’s car and went hot rodding. Only Nolker is no teen. And his dad’s car is no Corvette that he just took out to cruise Richmond and/ or Excelsior Springs – or maybe do some drag racing on Route D (a.k.a., “Three-Mile Lane”), the straight stretch of highway that runs east and west through Lawson. Rather, the Hardin resident drove the racecar normally driven by his father Jim to compete in the hobby stock or “pure stock” division at Central Missouri Speedway north of Warrensburg. He placed fifth in his heat. “The heat race was pretty good,” Blaine said. “We had a little trouble with the car. Motor wasn’t running just quite right. … We started on the front row – and usually, we finish up there – but we had a little trouble with the car. This is the first time we’ve had it out all year long.” Blaine then placed 10th in the division’s feature race. It was “kind of fun racing, but (I) wish we’d have run a little better,”…
