New coach leads Orrick boys on latest title quest

Orrick is looking to a new coach to keep a trend going in varsity boys basketball. Chris Harbison leads the Bearcats as they seek their second straight district title and fourth in five seasons. Harbison succeeds Joe Cusack, who led the Bearcats to the Class 1 District 13 title in his lone season as coach. Cusack, in turn, succeeded Matt Brownsberger, who guided Orrick to back-to-back district titles and then the Class 1 District 13 title game to cap the Bearcats’ 2021-22 campaign. Harbison joins the program after serving as an assistant at Cameron and working with AAU programs during his offseason months, he said during a Nov. 11 shootaround in the high school gym. He also joins a program that’s known for pushing the ball – a tactic he plans to use, too. “We’ll definitely play with some tempo,” Harbison said. But Harbison also plans to add a few wrinkles to Orrick’s attack. One of them is positionless basketball – a style of play that has taken root in the college and pro ranks…
