Maddux ‘nothing but impressed’ as Spartans start 2020 softball campaign

RICHMOND – The Spartans have wowed varsity softball coach Staci Maddux since starting preseason practices. “I’ve been nothing but impressed since the night we started,” Maddux said Aug. 21 as the Spartans practiced at Southview Park. “The girls are working exceptionally hard. I haven’t had to push them at all. They are pushing themselves. They’re pushing each other. And honestly, they’re just happy to be out here playing ball.” Infielders Mikayla Thaxton and Kayden McCarter, the ballclub’s two seniors, lead the group of selfstarters. They are impressed with their teammates. “I feel like a lot of the upcoming freshmen have a lot to bring to the team, and I just feel like we all work together … (well),” Thaxton said. Every Spartan “definitely brings something” to the ballclub, McCarter said.
