Latest Orrick VB coach works to establish trust with ’Cats

Orrick has a new varsity volleyball coach again. Tanner Lowrey is guiding the Bearcats. For the seniors, he’s their fourth head coach in as many years, as he acknowledged during an Aug. 15 interview. Lowrey, who comes to Orrick from Burke Academy in the Kansas City-based Hickman Mills C-1 School District, succeeds Mitch Comstock. Comstock, a longtime coach of various sports and an educator at Orrick, led the program for one season. As the Richmond News reported in May, Comstock left to coach and teach in the Lawson R-XIV School District. Comstock, in turn, succeeded Trevor Ballard, who also coached the program for one season after coaching the junior high program. Ballard succeeded Emily Brownsberger, the varsity coach for 2019. Because of the coaching turnover, during the first week of summer offseason training, Lowrey talked with the Bearcats and told the girls he “understood how they felt with their trust issues,” he said. “My senior year, I got a new head coach for baseball,…
