Once again, Orrick has a quarterback who can run with the football. Senior Jonathon Harris, a stateplacing hurdler, will lead Orrick’s offense. He succeeds recent graduate Zander Stevinson, who led Orrick to an 11-1 campaign in 2022 in part with his running ability. “Jonathon’s got a lot of speed,” Orrick coach Kirk Thacker said Aug. 8. “He’s got a lot more speed than Zander did.” On the other hand, Stevinson “had a heck of an arm” and passing is a skill Harris is still developing, according to Thacker. To develop that skill, the Bearcats are limiting the receiver-turnedquarterback to short passes, he said. “(We’re running) swing passes out of the backfield, drags,” Thacker said. “Nothing that’s … going to be downfield until he can (throw long).
