Richmond has a new coach to start the varsity volleyball season. That coach, however, isn’t new to coaching Richmond volleyball. Or to Richmond athletics in general. Chosen this summer to replace Crystal Turner, Cody Hogan is leading the Spartans. Hogan, a Richmond graduate who also coaches high school wrestling, was an assistant volleyball coach a few seasons prior, he said. He agreed to lead the program because the school district “needed someone to step in and they came and asked me,” he said. “I know … (there are) a lot of good, talented girls on this team – and just goodnatured girls – and I really wanted them to have a good experience before a lot of them graduate,” Hogan said. Like other fall sports teams affiliated with the Missouri State High School Activities Association, the Richmond volleyballers had their first preseason practice Monday.
